The ultimate intermediate-level roadmap

Take your soloing and improvisation skills to the next level. Let me help you develop the technical skills, the understanding and the confidence you need to make the leap to becoming a pro-level player.

This is the long-awaited follow up to the first ACPG Solos course, and shares a similarly inspiring and detailed approach.

You can already play, but what now?

So you already know the basics. You know some licks, a couple of scales. Your friends and family tell you that you sound pretty good. But something's missing. You don't really understand what you're doing. You easily get lost, fumble around, and struggle to know what to play in real musical situations. You're lacking the confidence you need to tell your musical story.

This is such a common situation in which to find yourself. And every great player has at one time been there. This course offers you a clear way forward, and gives you all the tools you need to be able to express yourself fluently on the instrument.

Let me tell you a bit about the course

Give your practice some direction

As an intermediate level player it's hard to know what you should be working on. There seem to be so many possibilities, and it's easy to just find yourself jumping from one YouTube video to the next with no plan and no real direction. With this course I'm giving you a clear plan of action. We're going to be focussing on the stuff that really matters, away from the hype and hacks of YouTube guitarland.

My aim with this course was to put together one of the most detailed and thorough soloing courses out there, but throughout I wanted to present the material in an inspiring and approachable way. By the time you've completed this course I want you to be able to solo confidently all over the fretboard, in any key, and in any common musical situation.

We will of course be working on essential techniques and licks. But those things are useless unless you really understand what you're doing. For that reason, we'll also be working towards a deeper knowledge of the fretboard with a thorough examination the CAGED system and some practical music theory. And of course all the hard work stuff is balanced out with plenty of jamming and improvisation over fun, pro-quality backing tracks across a range of different styles.

Everything you need to make a breakthrough with your soloing is here.

Start working on the stuff that really matters

You only have a limited amount of practice time, yet there's a bewildering number of things to potentially be working on. Where to start? What to prioritise? This course focusses on the stuff that will really make a difference.

  • The logic of the fretboard
  • The CAGED system
  • Practical music theory
  • Technique
  • Scale patterns
  • Licks you can really use
  • Soloing philosophy
  • Improvisation
  • Playing over chord changes

A clear plan

We'll be working on the important stuff in a thorough, progressive way. Each video follows on logically from the previous lessons, giving you a clear practice roadmap. All you need to do is grab your guitar and start practising.

A deeper understanding

Yes scales and licks are important, but something I want to emphasise in this course is the importance of going a bit deeper than that and really understanding the way the fretboard works.

Find your musical voice

Whilst there are plenty of usable licks and complete solos for you to learn, this course is all about giving you the confidence to be yourself. Throughout lessons, I'll be encouraging you to improvise and find your own voice on the instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get permanent access to the course materials?

Yes, once you've enrolled you get instant lifetime access to all the videos and other course content.

Can I download the videos to watch offline?

For piracy and copyright reasons the videos aren't available to download (though you can download all the PDFs and backing tracks). You do have the option of using the teachable app which allows you to save videos to watch offline (this currently only works with iOS and not Android).

Do I need to have completed the first ACPG Solos course before I work on this one?

This course picks up right from where the first soloing course left off. So if you have studied that course then the transition into this one should be fairly seamless. But this course is also designed to be a self-contained intermediate level course. So whilst a certain amount of knowledge is assumed, it is not necessary to have seen the first course for this one to make sense.

I've been playing for x number of years, will the course still be useful to me?

The course is primarily aimed at intermediate level players who want to increase their fretboard knowledge and build soloing confidence. It starts at what might be described as a late beginner level but as the course progresses gets into some more advanced concepts, some of which may be of interest even to quite experienced players. If in doubt, make sure you take a careful look at the full curriculum before making a decision.

If the course isn't for me, can I get me money back?

Yes, there's a 14 day money back guarantee if you buy the course and find it's not what you were after for any reason.

Do I get any personal feedback or interaction with the instructor?

This is an online, video-based course that you can complete at your own pace. As such, there's no direct interaction with the teacher. I will however be available in the comments under each video, and will do my best to help people out and answer every question asked there.

How long will it take me to complete the course?

This is a hard question to answer since it depends on your level of experience coming into the course and also how much time you put into it. Having said that, this is a huge and detailed course and there should be plenty here to keep the average intermediate player busy for at least a year. However, more experienced players who are looking to fill in gaps in their knowledge may find they can complete the course more quickly than that.

It seems like a lot of of money, do you offer sales/discounts?

I realise it's not cheap and I certainly don't want to exclude anybody here, but I feel it's priced fairly considering the massive amount of detailed content, and the time it took to put it all together. For that reason I don't do sales, Black Friday deals or any of that stuff. Putting it in perspective, it's about the price of a couple of private lessons with an experienced teacher.

What kind of styles are covered in the course?

The musical examples found in the course cover a wide range of styles including rock, punk, funk, soul, blues and country. The course deliberately isn't narrowly focussed on any particular style of music, and the concepts presented here can be used in just about every style of popular music.
